Way too much confusion out there about Veterans health care and benefits. I have dealt with the VA since 1972 when I first tried to get care for my WWII Veteran Father. They took good care of him and I learned a lot along the way. Today I am rated at 70% service connected and I am paid at the rate of 100% due to non-employability. There are a lot of well meaning folks out here who in their hearts really want to help the veteran.
IMO, there are too many places to go to that claim to help Vets. We hear about Veterans that cannot get care even though they were combat related injured and discharged medically from the service.
I also have been blessed with a wife that is a bull moose when it comes to me and my Veteran status. She filed my Social Security disability claim, no Attorney, and it was approved in less than thirty days.
The problem I run into most is when a Vet hears from several well meaning people who sound good and say they can get the veteran their benefits. This often results in paperwork being submitted by several Veterans group and not only clogs the VA system but now all the information is different and in conflict. You cannot do that folks. Stay with one organization. Make dam sure you do not have to pay for the service. Those that charge are in it for the money. They may get you a disability pension approval but it's going to cost you and that is just not right. I have use the Disabled American Veterans of America for years. link
Most State VA reps have way too small of a staff to help you properly plus they are paid a salary, DAV is not at the local chapters, they work for you. They are also all disabled Vets just like us.
So enjoy the forum and share what you learn that will help each other in our quest to ensure the Government keeps its promise to our Veterans. Thank you.
